The Senate approved the Murray-Ryan budget deal yesterday and sent the bill to the President for his signature. This paves the way for discussions on a bigger, longer-term deal – hopefully in the form of an omnibus – in early 2014. On the downside, some legislators are already making noises about a fresh battle over the federal debt ceiling come March.
Meanwhile, appropriators will be working through the holiday break to prepare appropriations budgets for 2014, so if you or your organization are planning to reach out to legislators to advocate for funding, now is the time to get started. Sources tell me legislators are shooting for draft legislation to be introduced on or around January 6, 2014.
