NHSA’s Karen Key took part in a live discussion with The Chronicle of Philanthropy about NHSA’s new report, “Increasing Financial Stability of Front-line Nonprofit Workers.” The report shares the results from a 3 year demonstration project, funded by the Ford Foundation, to investigate whether nonprofit human service organizations could use their own Human Resources functions to enroll eligible employees in work supports that would help them stabilize their own often fragile financial situation.
Nonprofits desire to pay their hard-working employees well, but they face many financial constraints in doing so, and as a result, many front-line workers face the same financial challenges as the people they serve. Karen Key, along with Lisa Rusyniak, Chief Executive of Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, answered reader’s questions in a live online chat, and shared background information on a new tactic to helping nonprofit workers.
